General Information
Come in and play two rounds of Commander per week in our eight week, bi-weekly league! At Kick-Off, all participants will be assigned a commander at random (no trading; one mulligan), plus a pack of sleeves and a deck box. What commander each player receives will be recorded as they are distributed. Sleeves and boxes can be redeemed after the commander is chosen. Each commander comes with a set of staples which are considered as free for budget purposes.
For the remaining weeks, each player will be allowed a $10 budget towards upgrading their deck. Cards may be sourced from anywhere, but their total value must not exceed $10 and the per card value must not exceed $5.
During the game, players will keep track of their points on the point card provided. In weeks 1 through 7, prizing will be given out to the players with the most points. In the finale on Week 8, the top scorers for the entire league will win extra prizes!
See JD (owner) or Steele (FNM Judge, organizer) for the achievement sheet and further details.
League Play:
Players will get to play two rounds of Best of 1 commander.
During each round, points must be tracked and reported at the end of the round on one sheet per table. Points are earned as a player fulfills their conditions.
Points cannot be awarded to players no longer in the game (with one exception), though some points are earned as players exit/lose the game.
Examples: “There’s No Crying in Baseball,” “That’s Rough, Buddy.”
Points should be tracked as soon as players become aware of them being obtained. Points are not “may abilities” and cannot be missed.
Pods will be capped at 4 players, seating will be randomized.
Round time is 90 minutes.
After time has expired, for each remaining player, there will be that many turns. The active player is on “Turn 0.” If there is no clear winner at the end of turns, point totals are finalized as-is and the game ends.
At the end of Round 1, the four highest-scoring players will be grouped together, followed by the next four players, and so on, until all players are grouped for round 2. After the division split, players will be grouped only with other players in their division.
Budget Rules: $10 limit per week, $5 limit per card
Budget does not roll over between weeks.
TCGPlayer Near Mint Market Value of the cheapest printing of a card will be used to determine the price of cards for the list. Feel free to bling out your decks!
Purchased cards are added to a “sideboard” which you can freely use over the course of the league. Cards removed from your deck are also put into your “sideboard” for later use; they do not give you any additional budget.
This is not a true sideboard, and as such, “Wish”-style cards will not work.
Basic lands and cosmetic changes (ie: replacing regular printings with foils or alt arts) are free.
If you buy all $10 of your budget from The Kobold’s Lair, you get $5 off your entry fee for the next week!
Your commander is fixed for the entirety of the league. Cosmetic swaps (alt arts, alters, Universes Beyond prints, etc.) are fine.
TKL recommends using Archidekt (archidekt.com) to keep track of your sideboard, as they have the tools to give you the cheapest possible prices.
Please submit your budget purchases to The Kobold’s Lair by 5 PM on the night of the event.
Deck Construction Limitations:
Your deck must be a legal Commander deck at all times.
You cannot swap your commander once assigned.
Your deck can contain no more than 50 cards that are land cards on their front face.
Absences:
If a player is unable to attend any week prior to the finale, they may opt to pay the total of their missed fees at any time prior to the finals to join/rejoin the league. Their starting deck and budget will be determined based on the week.
A player may select a substitute to play their deck for a given week, or to take over their decklist for the remainder of the tournament. This option should not be abused.
Absent players can play games in-store with other league players to score missed games.
Any players playing with them receive one bonus point added to their score (one point per player helped over the course of the league).
Helping players can also replace one of their reported scores with the points they scored in the shop game. Each player can replace one score this way over the course of the league before playoffs, and one after. This doesn’t change prizes that have already been awarded.
